Mokon is proud to announce our new refrigerant, low GWP portable chillers. Our new chillers feature an updated design, accurate and reliable process control, cooling capacities up to 60 Tons, and the same Mokon quality you’ve come to expect. Read on to learn more about the technical side of our chillers and our commitment to supporting all of our units that are in the field.
What is GWP?
If you’re unaware, GWP stands for Global Warming Potential. It’s used to measure the amount of heat that greenhouse gases trap in the atmosphere compared to carbon dioxide. A chiller with low GWP has a substantially lower impact on the planet’s climate as opposed to traditional alternatives that do not have low GWP. Current standards require refrigerants to be below 700 GWP.
Looking at Our Refrigerants
Our GWP refrigerants are R-454B and R-513A. The first refrigerant, R-454B, is a zeotropic blend and is a mixture of hydrofluorocarbon and hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO). This results in a low GWP of 446, low toxicity, and non-ozone depletion potential. The latter is also based on HFO and has non-ozone depletion potential, but differs as it is azeotropic and has a higher GWP of 572. It’s important to note that both refrigerants are classified as A2L flammables and require additional safety features in new chiller units.
Our Chiller Commitment
We will continue to provide parts and service for all our R407-C and R-134A in the field. Parts and gas will remain available for the next several years, and customers will continue to be allowed to service and repair their units. This means whether you bought your R407-C or R-134A chiller recently or 10 years ago, they can continue to be maintained and serviced in the future.
